Matthew - 5x7 Art Card

In 1998 I was 27 years old and out and proud in every aspect of my life. Then the murder of Matthew Shepard made me rethink everything I thought I knew about being safe. The coverage was everywhere and the hateful protestors with their hate speech signs and chants I found terrifying. It didn't push me back into the closet or anything but it certainly made me a lot more cautious. It really made me realize that no matter how far I thought we had come, that hatred and fear was still right there, just below the surface waiting for an excuse to rear it's ugly head. Recent event in the news have me just as worried now as I was then. So much good came from that horrible tragedy with regard to hate crime legislation, but I worry about easily it could all be taken away again.

The original painting is a 40"x30" Acyrlic on Canvas. All of the originals remain in my personal collection and, at this time are not for sale.
