About Me

Blaine LeRoy

My family is from Vancouver Island and even though I was born and raised in the BC interior in Williams Lake, I have always felt most truly at home on the Island. I moved to Courtenay directly out of high-school in 1989 and eventually ended up in Nanaimo. I spent the 90s as the lead singer in a country band called Western Electric and thought that music would be my life calling until it was cut short by a Leukemia Diagnosis in 1998. This was my second Cancer battle and possibly the result of the treatment I received from my first time when I was six years old. My childhood cancer was a rare form of Glandular cancer that had a very bad prognosis, but with great medical care, and the love and support of my family I beat the odds, therefore I had no fear going into another battle as an adult. Life Circumstances and opportunities took me to Saint John, New Brunswick (where I lived for 15 years) and it was in Halifax, Nova Scotia that I received a bone marrow transplant on May 14th 1999. During my recovery, while my new immune system took effect in my body, I had to limit my exposure to the public so resuming my music life wasn’t an option. I needed to find other artistic outlets and my neighbour invited me out to a painting class. I loved it and painting became an amazing emotional outlet for me. After leaving New Brunswick I did an 8 year career driven stint in Alberta before finally returning home to Nanaimo. Now that I am firmly planted back home I have no intention of ever leaving again and I have found a new balance between my work that pays the bills life, and my actual fulfilling life. Singing, Dancing, Acting, Writing, Painting, and Woodwork are where I find my bliss and sharing them with others is just an added bonus.
